Meet Our Team

Susan Henriques

M.A., C. Psych., Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario

From a young age, Susan knew she wanted to be a psychologist. She started her career at the Hospital for Sick Children and completed her graduate studies in School and Clinical Child Psychology at the University of Toronto in 2001. With over 23 years of experience in school boards and five years with a family health team, Susan has addressed a range of learning, emotional, mental health and behavioural challenges. Her work also included training and supervising graduate students from UofT.

At the school board, she led social-emotional program, focusing on prevention and intervention. She has delivered classroom programs on anxiety, depression, and CBT-based skills, and provided individual counseling.

As the founder of New Horizons, Susan aims to offer personalized assessment and therapy for children (ages 7-21) and their parents, setting goals and making plans together. Her goal is to create a positive, connected relationship where you and your family feel heard and understood.

Susan is a mom of two young adults and a fur baby.


Nicole Henderson

M.A., BA, BEd, RP | Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Nicole Henderson is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. She also has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from Brock University, where she completed the Concurrent Education program. In addition to her psychotherapy work, Nicole is a substitute teacher for primary, junior, and intermediate grades.

Nicole is dedicated to helping others achieve their goals and live fully. She provides a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for clients, focusing on building strengths and overcoming obstacles. Her practice includes working with school-age children, youth, young adults, and families on issues like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, behavioural concerns, and socio-emotional challenges.

Using an integrative approach, Nicole employs various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. She tailors her sessions to each client's unique needs and preferences, continuously learning and adapting her methods through professional development. Nicole values each client's individuality and is committed to creating a personalized and effective therapeutic experience.


Shameela Hoosen-Shakeel

M.A.. | Psychoeducational Consultant and Client Coordinator

For over 25 years, Shameela has been conducting assessments for children, teens and adults, as well as working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to meet the needs of clients and families. She has worked in hospital and private clinic settings in Toronto, York Region, and Peel Region. She also currently works with an ADHD/Performance Coach to support students in secondary and post-secondary schools, as well as adults. 

Shameela is a mom of 4 teens/young adults and an active community volunteer in York Region. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling and planning trips, trying new food in restaurants and at home, and empowering youth to build their leadership and advocacy skills.
